The Strand Today
The Strand Arts Centre is East Belfast’s much-loved independent cinema and arts hub, rooted in the community since 1935. As Northern Ireland’s last surviving pre-war picture house, we show the latest releases alongside classic films, live theatre, music events and creative workshops.
Following a transformative £6.5m renovation, we’ve reopened our doors on Holywood Road — restored, reimagined, and ready to welcome you. Explore our story and discover everything the Strand has to offer.
Workshops & Community
The Strand has always been more than a cinema. Our workshops and community programmes bring people together – to make, learn, connect, and create. From Saturday Minors Club to creative skills workshops for adults, there’s something here for every age and stage.
Plan your visit
The Strand is in the heart of East Belfast on Holywood Road, with free parking, step-free access, and a warm welcome for every visitor. We’re open seven days a week.

Become part of our story
For ninety years, the Strand has been part of East Belfast’s story. As an independent, not-for-profit arts centre, everything we do depends on the support of people who believe in what we’re building. Whether you donate, become a member, or simply spread the word — you’re part of it too.
